Ucko has held senior management positions at large museums: President—Science City at Union Station in Kansas City; Deputy Director—California Museum of Science & Industry (now California Science Center) in Los Angeles; Vice President—Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago.

In addition, he headed a start-up institution, the Koshland Science Museum in Washington, DC; served as a Trustee for the volunteer-run Museum Without Walls in Kansas City, MO; and led the Kansas City Museum when it was a small history and science museum.

His national service for the Institute of Museum and Library Services, American Association for Museums, and Association of Science-Technology Centers has also provided a broad perspective on diverse museums of all sizes.
